Charnley - Grevillia and Dillie Gorges

Ok there are going to be many, many gorges mentioned, and swimming holes, and time lazing and dozing by various rivers, but that's the Kimberley. It's a vast landscape, with amazing rock formations ( being here with Andy is like being in a constant geology lesson, fortunately I liked physical geography at school 😛) and colours and expanses of grassland.

Charnley is a lovely old homestead, it was bizarre seeing reticulation and soft green grass. The pastoral lease has recently been taken over by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy ( AWC), so while they need to keep and muster 500 cattle to maintain the lease, the land will be managed to provide habitat for native Australian wildlife. It was common to see wallabies, and heaps of birds, and just watch for the frogs in the toilets.

To get to Grevillia Gorge was a real scramble, down the waterfall in the photograph. There was apparently a way to get down the second waterfall, but not easily and we didn't attempt the climb. A very pleasant afternoon was spent swimming, sunbathing, and sleeping.

Dillie Gorge was much more open, and didn't strike me as spectacular but then again, I think I'd been spoiled by the spectacular nature of Grevillia. I think Dillie at sunset would have been amazing, the sunset colours here are spectacular.
